Tooling

Tooling is one of the most important aspects in the production process. As the sourcing partner for clients from a wide range of product fields, Berkeley Sourcing Group has a wealth of knowledge and experience to draw from. We have extensive experience with toolings across a broad realm of manufacturing processes involving molding, stamping, extrusion, die-cutting… of many different types of materials. Our factories use some of the most high tech machines available to get precision cuts and meet specifications with low tolerances.

These machines include:

  • CNC – 5-axis and 3-axis, high speed
  • Vertical and Horizontal machining centers
  • Milling machines
  • Lathes
  • Grinders, including precision grinders
  • EDM (Electrical Discharge Machines)
  • High precision wire EDM
  • CNC small hole drilling down to 0.2mm

Measure Twice, Cut Once

Getting the tooling right is crucial in achieving quality results. To this end, our engineers will work one-on-one with the factories to make sure the tooling meets the correct specifications. Once the tooling has been made, our engineers, along with the project manager and quality control inspector, will travel to the factory. The tooling will then be tested during a series of preproduction trial runs and our team will meticulously look for any deviations. Working with the factory, they’ll make any slight tooling modifications that are necessary to ensure that the product outcome is in line with our gold standard. By being on the ground during this stage of the production process, we are able to solve and fix any problems immediately before mass production begins.

CNC Software and ISO Certification

All of the factories we use run CNC software programs specific to each product. In addition, we work with a number of factories which are ISO 9001 certified. As an added benefit to our clients, Berkeley Sourcing Group provides free tooling maintenance for the lifetime of your project. Some of the toolings we work with most often are:

  • Injection molding (plastic and metal) – See Process Spotlight on Injection Molding
  • Blow molding
  • Compression molding
  • Rotational molding
  • Microinjection molding
  • Silicon molding
  • Extrusion molding
  • Die compression molding
  • Die cutting
  • Die casting
  • Metal stamping
