The premise behind The Meshbottle is simple: to create a bottle that is 100% free from potentially harmful plastics. The product is a high quality bottle with an interior made from 99.9% glass, with the only other material used being a food-safe silicone.
Being completely plastic-free and non-metallic, Meshbottles promise is to be kinder to the environment, and your health alike. This means, no BPA, PET, Phthalates or other plastics, which can have negative effects on testosterone levels, cellular health, and more. It also means the bottles won’t deteriorate over time!
Other smart design choices help make this an even more tempting option when you need to take a drink on the go. The silicone cap, for instance, turns inside out to make it much easier to clean, and is water repellent to prevent mold.
It is the mesh sleeve, however, that gives the bottle its name. This is not only an attractive feature, but the impressive 360 degree elasticity makes it a cinch to strap on and remove. With the mesh sleeve in place, you’ll be sure not to drop your bottle, and the glass will be fully protected. The sleeve also comes in several colours.
The Birth of Meshbottles
Meshbottles was born, as s
o many great ideas are, when project leader Gabor Kocsis and his team couldn’t find what they were looking for on the market.
“I was listening to a news story about how BPA free plastics may still be harmful, and I knew I wanted to drink from a bottle that was plastic-free.” recalls Gabor. “Glass is safe, easy to clean, and does not absorb odours or flavours, but most of the glass water bottles on the market have plastic caps. Aluminium and stainless steel can impart a metallic taste to juices and teas. I wanted a glass bottle, without plastic or metal components, so I designed my own.”
The titular mesh sleeve, meanwhile, was inspired by vintage wire mesh soda siphons.
