Engineers Without Borders
Engineers Without Borders is a national non-profit dedicated to serving developing countries and disadvantaged communities through engineering solutions. Greg Fisher, founder of Berkeley Sourcing Group, has been heavily involved in Engineers Without Borders for the past few years.
“As the NorCal representative, I basically lead all the chapters in Northern California and helped them to overcome hurdles as they came up with individual chapters, coordinated between the national and chapter level, facilitated communication between chapters in the state, and revised policy. Probably the most notable thing I’ve worked on is coming up with a set of student guidelines to help student chapters run more efficiently and tackle common problems that hadn’t been addressed in a systematic way.”
In January of 2010, Mr. Fisher became the West Coast Region President of Engineers Without Borders. In this role he manages the West Coast Region Steering committee, which acts as a bridge between the national level and the chapter level with some of its own funds to offer support to the chapters.
The West Coast Region of Engineers Without Borders also hosts an annual workshop for information, networking, and training for EWB members, supports a water quality testing kit which can be used by individual EWB chapters, hosts websites for the chapters and other online resources, and gives feedback to the national office about what are common issues and potential solutions at the chapter level.
