The World's Smartest Sprinkler System
A Drop of Inspiration
So often, it is frustration rather than necessity that is the true mother of invention. Indeed, that was the case for Matt Kresse and his colleague who were beyond difficult to use, wasteful sprinkler systems.
That’s why the duo, a designer and engineer respectively, came up with their own solution that could use up to 50% less water. They knew they were onto a winner when it went on to be selected by Radicand Lab – a hardware start-up incubator based in Redwood City.
What is Mist?
Mist is the world’s smartest sprinkler system, and is a marked departure from the low-tech sprinklers of the past.
Whereas traditional sprinkler systems have no sensors and lack any data regarding what they’re watering, Mist uses an array of solar-powered sensors to measure not only moisture in the ground, but also whether or not that moisture is making it to the plant’s roots!
The result is healthier grass and plants, but also huge water savings which can be viewed in real-time through an accompanying app. You’ll never waste water again watering when it’s raining; and the device will stop just as soon as your plants are properly hydrated. The whole thing runs autonomously and is the latest feature for the truly smart-home.

The campaign for funding is currently live on Indiegogo where it has already raised $18,501, so get involved if you like the sounds of saving energy and helping your plants to thrive. The goal is $45,000 so they need your support!
