Hammock-Backpack

HammockHackedPack is a start-up with some experience funding bags through Kickstarter. A while back they created the ‘Hammock-Backpack’ which more than doubled its goal of $6,600 by raising the impressive total of $15,018.

Designed by Nick Scroggs, the first Hammock-Backpack was a bag that cleverly contained a hammock, allowing you to very quickly erect a place to chill wherever you might be. After Nick teamed up with his friend and media producer Fred Bane, the duo managed to turn it into the huge success it became.

‘After receiving a hammock as a present, [Nick] realized the untapped potential of hammocking as a social activity, but kept forgetting to bring it.’Explains Fred. ‘He found that by combining it into a backpack in a special way, he never again found himself without a hammock, and now uses it with friends on a daily basis.’

Now the team are back with an updated version of their bag: the Hammock-BackPack v1.1. This time it comes with over 15 storage points, much lighter clips, stronger straps and a bigger hammock. Specifically, the hammock is now over 54 square feet of material (parachute nylon) and can hold up to 500lbs. It provides more than enough space for two people to relax in at once, whilea high visibility rain fly for the bag protects your belongings from the elements. As an added bonus, backers who get involved will also receive the Swift Messenger Bag.

HackedPack are optimistic that their new design will bring the joy of relaxing in a hammock to an even bigger audience:

‘After using the bag for some time we’ve found there are way more opportunities to hammock in daily life than we had originally thought: between classes, afternoons in the park, on your lunch break… any time you have 20 minutes and can find 2 strong supports spaced an appropriate distance apart, you can put up your hammock and create a personal chill out spot almost anywhere.’
