The Bloombox is an iPhone and iPod docking station with a natural acoustic amplifying design and space for a planter.

What is a Bloombox? No, it’s not a place where those amazing blooming onions found at great steakhouses magically appear..but it’s just as awesome and will give buyer satisfaction beyond just 10 minutes. Bloombox, in a nutshell, is a docking station for your iPod or phone with some great original perks. Inventor Nicholas Hyde and his project motivator, Brennan Conroy, launched this project on Kickstarter and are getting some great feedback.

The success of this product lies in its design and sets it apart from other docking stations. And here’s why:

  1. Inherently amplifies sound due to its box-like open shape
  2. Decorative! Unlike others, it doesn’t look like an electronic component out of place. Plus, what you place in the box is totally up to you so it’s guaranteed to fit your style and taste.
  3. It’s made out of ceramic (not cheap plastic or cold metal) with matte finishes that give it that touch of modern elegance.

Personally, I fight an internal battle between loving little niches to put things in (e.g. backpack with numerous pockets) and being drawn to a simplistic look. Upon first seeing this product I thought, “Somebody gets me!” Finally something that holds my phone and charges it, doubles as my stereo, and a place where I can put my keys, wallet, watch etc. and it’s all slightly hidden by the lip in the product and in one organized place. Also, if I’m feeling really lucky that a plant might survive in my presence, I can put a little green plant there as well(or more likely a fake one). However, most people will probably use this space as just decorative. That’s what makes this product awesome, it can be personalized and customized.

On to specifics. It’s ceramic with a white or black matte plaster finish. Although Bloombox hasn’t been manufactured just yet, not surprisingly Nick and Brennan report that there are already a few interested wholesalers. Right now their best estimate for the retail price will be about $50.00ish. With almost two weeks left go, they’ve already exceeded their initial backing goal and still rising. There’s still time left to get in on this Kickstarter project.
