Jolt: World's First Wireless Charger for GoPro® Cameras

Jolt ChargerWhen the GoPro camera was first released, it instantly became a hit among adventurous types and extreme sports aficionados. This is a camera that attaches to any helmet, dashboard, ski or surfboard and that’s durable enough to survive knocks and bumps and even being submerged under water. At the same time though, it captures HD video through a wide-angle lens and is generally ideal for capturing the action from your point of view.

But while the GoPro is ideal in many ways, one shortcoming is its battery. To charge the GoPro, you have to first remove the battery from the case, then plug it in and then wait for a long time for it to charge. For a camera that’s all about action, it’s a surprisingly lengthy and fiddly process. And if you’re swapping batteries outdoors, you can risk exposing the more delicate innards to water or sand.

And that’s where Jolt Charger and the ‘Jolt’ come in…

A Jolt of Inspiration

Jolt Charger are a team of ‘avid GoPro’ users in order to change the way GoPros are charged. Fortunately, one of the team members had relevant experience that could help…

“One of the members of the team has experience working in wireless power at Mojo Mobility and thought using this technology for charging GoPro cameras was ideal. So he investigated using the technology for this product.”

FunctioningJolt then, is an entirely wireless charger for any GoPro – or even two GoPros at once. The system comes with two parts – the charger itself and the wireless battery. Simply replace your battery with the Jolt battery and you can start charging your camera by resting it on the Jolt’s surface. This way, you can come in from a heavy day of surfing and just drop your GoPro down to charge it. Then, when you’re ready to go the next day, it will already be good to go.

Charging Forward

Now Jolt is on Kickstarter where it’s making great progress already. Recently GoPro introduced its latest HERO4 camera and Jolt will also support this camera with a compatible battery.  With 26 days still to go, Jolt has already raised over $19,000 with 177 backers.
